Obituary

Joseph Warren Griffith, Civil war veteran, born April 8, 1846 in Washington county, Pennsylvania, died is his residence, 514 South Ninth street, Sept. 19, at 12:10 p.m. Mr. Griffith had been a resident of Burlington for the past 14 years. July 16, 1873 he was united in marriage at Lowell, Ia., to Miss Irene Walker, who preceded him in death eight years ago. He is survived by three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Orpha Harvey of Lowell, Ia., Mrs Lulu Shawgo, Canton, Ill., Mrs. Nellie Fotheringham, Chicago, Il. Frank Griffith of Burlington, and Warren Griffith of Galesburg, Ill. Two sons preceded him in death. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was a member of the G.A.R.being one of the last surviving veterans in this county. He was a member of company D. 185th Ohio infantry and enlisted at Williamsburg, Pa., February, 1865. Mr. Griffith had been in failing health for the past two years. Funeral services will be held in Prughs chapel Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Friends invited. Interment will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
