Obituary
John S. Fear, who has mad e this city his home for the past fifty years, passed away this morning at Mercy hospital. He has been in feeble health for some time and his relatives and friends expected the end. John S. Fear was born in Miami, Hamilton county, Ohio, in 1834, and removed with his parents to Salem, Iowa, in the year of 1841. After finishing his education, he went to St. Louis, where he remained a year and came to this city in 1854. During his residence in this city John Fear made many firm and lasting friendships. He was a man of kindly and genial disposition, which in a large measure accounted for his popularity. He was taken to Mercy hospital last Saturday in the hope that the skilled attention at that institution would benefit him, but the change was unavailing, Many years ago he was connected with the firm of Wright & Co. and for a long period up to the time he was elected to the office of city auditor in the year of 1894, Mr. Fear was connected with the sheriff's office, where he was accounted a valuable official. He was one of the most expert accountants in the city in his time. He is survived by three sons; Frank of Chicago, Edward of Montana and George. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon t 2:30 o'clock from the late residence of the deceased. The following gentleman will act as pallbearers: A.C. and J.H. Wyman, Ed Rhein, William Frame, J.C. Sunderland and Joseph Shwaller.
