Obituary

James "Jim" Henry Stebbins, 87, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, IA. He was born November 21, 1926 in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Gerald G. and Hazel I. Behrens Stebbins. On Feb. 11, 1978 he married Carolyn Ross Latty in Burlington. Jim was a 1944 graduate of Oelwein High School and attended college at the University of Nevada and the University of Iowa. James was a Navy Veteran of WW II with the rank of Radar Technician Second Class. James managed a number of Data Processing operations. He retired from Burlington Medical Center after 13 years as the Manager of Data Processing and was a charter member of the Data Processing Management Association. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Burlington where he served several terms on the Diaconate Board and belonged to the Congregators. He was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling and collecting stamps and slot machines.
Survivors include four daughters, Deborah (Mike) Pintar of Burlington, IA, Linda (Robert) Hoover of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Carol (Steven) Hildreth of Hastings, MN, Susan (Jeff) Haines of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one son, James (Judy) Stebbins of Mt. Pleasant, IA; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson, Jacob Haines and his wife, Carolyn. Funeral services for James Henry Stebbins will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke United Church of Christ, 1403 South St., Burlington, Iowa. Officiant will be Pastor Mark Schowalter. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Following the graveside service a light meal will be served in the fellowship hall.
