Forrest Alexander Bailey, 84, of 1620 S 15th St., died at 3:40 pm Wednesday, July 10, 1996, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Born Oct. 1, 1911, at Fairfield, he was the son of Clifford C. and Winnie Vera Hodson Bailey. He married Vera C. Samuelson Jan 31, 1933, at Oquawka, Ill.
Mr. Bailey was a section foreman for Burlington Northern Railroad for 47 ½ years and worked with the Burlington Police Reserve for 25 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, trustee, and deacon, and was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 48 A.F. & A.M. of Danville, Mosse Lodge No. 579 of Burlington, Railroad Veterans and Mainliners and of Carthage Lake Club.
He served in the National Guard from October 1928 until October 1931.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Larry Eugene Bailey of West Branch; two sisters, Mildred Ruth Rankin or Elsberry, Mo., and Marjorie Ellingsworth of Mount Vernon, Ill., two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Friends may call after noon today at Lunning Chapel, where masonic rites service will be held at 7 pm, followed by the family receiving friends until 8:30 pm.
The funeral for Mr. Bailey will be 1 pm Saturday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Sue Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for First Presbyterian Church.
