Obituary
A 66-year-old Burlington man was found dead in his car about 7:30 am Saturday, in the 700 block of S. Fourth.
He was Ellis H. Bachman, of 520 Dunham, who had been missing from his home since about 9 pm Friday, officials said.
Gilbert Barker, deputy coroner, was called and the body was taken to Giles funeral home. Barker said no inquest will be held.
Bachman reportedly had a heart condition and sustained a fatal attack last Friday night, according to the coroner's office.
The dead man was discovered by Robert Fay, 700 S. Fourth, in front of his home. Bachman was in the front seat of the auto and had been dead for several hours, according to police and firemen called to the scene.
Bachman had been reported missing from his home at 12:43 am Saturday. His car was said to have been seen parked in front of Fay's residence at about 9 pm on Friday. A neighbor, Mrs. Arthur C. Kohrs, 701 S. Fourth, told police that she saw a man get out of a car between 9 and 9:30 pm, walk to the steps leading to the Fay home, and sit down. A short time later, she thought she heard a car door slam.
The victim was for many years a building contractor and later was employed by Noelke Lyon Manufacturing company, until his retirement last year.
He was a member of Grace Methodist church.
Bachman was born May 18, 1890, at Blakesburg, the son of John F. and Mary Reinhardt Bachman. On July 27, 1921, he was married to Velma Crume in Burlington.
Surviving are his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Ross, Centerville, and Mrs. Mary Haley, Wichita, Kan., and a number of nieces and nephews.
His parents, three sisters and two brothers died previously.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Monday at Grace Methodist church, with Rev. James Buikema officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
The body will be taken from Giles funeral home at 11 am Monday to lie in state until the hour of service.
