Edward Eugene Broeg, 83, of Burlington, died at 6:53 PM, Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at his home.
Born July 2, 1921, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward and Esther Peterson Broeg. He married Madlynne R. Schultz on October 14, 1950, at First United Methodist Church in Burlington.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1939.
He was a grocery clerk at Benner Tea Co for three years.
He was then in the U.S. Army/Air force during World War II as an airplane instrument specialist from Oct. 26, 1942 until Dec. 5, 1945.
He worked at Burlington Instrument Co. until Nov. 1946. He was a Patrolman for the Burlington Police Department for four years and a Sergeant for several years. He resigned as a Captain in 1966. He was an adjuster at Crocker Claims for five years until Jan. 1972 when he began working at J.I. Case Co. until December 1985. He then began to drive a bus for Burlington Trailways mostly to St. Louis until 1999. He was a delivery man for Ritter's for three years until 2004.
He was a 50 year member of First United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Des Moines Lodge #1 Masonic Lodge, and the American Legion Post 52. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, and making peanut brittle. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye's fan. He had attended Burlington High School football games for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two half brothers, Richard and Larry and his stepmother.
