Obituary
Donald G. Bowman, Sr. 70, of Burlington, died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the home of his daughter in Burlington. Born Nov. 11, 1929, in Monmouth, Ill., he was the son of Ruben and Florence Sheets Bowman. He married Ruby Alberta Saldeen on Feb. 18, 1951, in Burlington. She died Sept. 18, 1993. Mr. Bowman was a laborer for Diamond Vogel for 19 years. He also worked for Murray-Trane, and retired from Exide Corp. in 1992. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, and a former member of Burlington Gym and the Moose Lodge. He worked as a chef in the National Guard Reserves, and enjoyed camping, fishing, and family outings. Survivors include four daughters, twins Delores "Dee" Ruble and Doris Bernhart, Kathryn Stoermer, and Tina Downing, all of Burlington; two sons, Donald G. Bowman, Jr. and Charles Bowman, both of Burlington; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Frances Shepherd, Virginia McGinity, and Margaret Donlan, all of Burlington. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Visitation will begin at noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Bowman will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Terry L. Vance officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
