Obituary
David J. Gehringer, 70, of Burlington, died at 1:55 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born April 3, 1930, in Warren County, he was the son of I. J. and Nelle Frances Ryan Gehringer. Mr. Gehringer was vice president of the installment loan department for Burlington Bank & Trust for 20 years. He then worked for the Henry County Bank in Green Rock, Ill. He was of the Catholic faith, and a 1947 graduate of St. Paul's Catholic High School in Burlington. He was a Korean War Army veteran. He enjoyed gardening, golf, and hunting. Survivors include four sons, Ryan T. Gehringer of rural New London, and John J. Gehringer, Thomas A. Gehringer, and Mark Gehringer, all of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Louise Christian of Williamston, Mich., Geneva Morrison of rural Burlington, and Dorothy Welcher of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Joseph Gehringer of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son. Visitation will begin after noon Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Gehringer will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of West Burlington, with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Notre Dame High School.
