Charles M. "Charlie" Hoschek, 66, of Burlington, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at his home. Born November 11, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of the late James H. and Iris Marie Kupfer Hoschek. Charlie was a firefighter for the City of Burlington from 1966 until 1997. He was a 1960 graduate of Burlington Notre Dame High School, and he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and served as Scout Master. Numerous of his scouts became Eagle Scouts under his leadership. He served on the Municipal Credit Union Board, the board of Meyer Marine, and was the Harbor Master. He was a member of Moose Lodge and Eagles Club. He loved the Mississippi River, hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. Survivors include his parents, Iris and Al Conor of Burlington; four brothers, Gary Conor of Las Vegas, NV, Stephen Hoschek of Burlington, Jon (Melodie) Hoschek of West Burlington, and James Hoschek of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Sue (Le Roy) Miller of Las Vegas, NV, and Sara (Tom) Rowan of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents. As per Charlie's request, his body has been cremated. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation. The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Hoschek will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and the Salvation Army.
