Santa Claus is dead, as far as many South Hill residents are concerned. Charles Fred Feldman, 86, Santa Claus for decades in neighborhood homes, stores and taverns, died Saturday at 3:45 a.m. in Klein Memorial Hospital. He had been ill two months. He had made children, and other friends, happy for 50 years. Mr. Feldman, a Burlington native was born Sept. 11, 1880, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Glitsch Feldman and married Clara A. Niemeyer here June 26, 1907. He was a member of First United Church of Christ and was a retired employe of the Chittenden & Eastman Co., with 62 years of service. Surviving: His wife; a daughter, Helen Feldman, of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Ida Walter of Burlington; several nieces and nephews; plus a number of middle agers who will remember Charlie Feldman as Santa Claus. Services for Mr. Felman, who lived at 1505 S. Central, will be Monday at 3:30 p.m.in Prughs Chapel. Rev. Donald Klohr will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove. Charlie will be missed Dec. 25.
