Charles E. Brooks, 69, well-known former Burlington man, died suddenly yesterday at 7:25 pm at the home of his daughter, Mrs. IN Cox, at Kirkwood, Missouri, according to word received here.
Mr. Brooks had been visiting his daughter for the last three months. Mr. Brooks was a native of this city and had gone to Ortonville, Minn., to engage in business about 40 years ago. He returned here thirty years ago and remained here until 1920, when he went to Davenport to engage in business with his son. While in Burlington, he was associated with the National State Bank until its consolidation with the First National Bank.
Mr. Brooks was born January 8, 1860, at the old Brooks Madison Ave. home, the son of Mr. and Mrs. SW Brooks, pioneers of this section of the country. SW Brooks was the founder of the National State Bank here. The biggest part of Mr. Brooks’ life was spent in Burlington, and he made many friends among his business associates and others in the city.
Mr. Brook’s wife, the former Miss Flora Carpenter of Burlington, preceded him in death in 1923.
Surviving are four daughters, Miss Ruth Brooks of Chicago; Miss Elsie Brooks of Lombard, Ill.; Mrs. Ben B Poor of Burlington; and Mrs. IE cox of Kirkwood, Mo., and one son, Charles E Brroks of Davenport, Ia.
Funeral services will be Oct. 12, at 2 pm from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Poor, 1103 N. Sixth St. The body arrived last night and was taken to Prugh’s chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. De. Archibald Cardle, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate.
