Obituary
Another gold star has been added to the service flag of world war soldiers of Burlington. Alexander Miller, 1931 Short street, son of Mrs. Carl Hucke, according to advices reaching the city yesterday, died in the United States Public Service hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.yesterday morning. His death was due to nervous troubles and general debility brought on thru service on the battlefields of France. The young man was a first class private in rank and was a model soldier. He was attached to the Forty-fifth transportation corps. The strain of service and horrors of war affected his nerves, however, and he was returned as a casual and confined to the United States army hospital. Unusual efforts were made by army physicians and specialists in nervous diseases to restore the young man to health, but all failed. The deceased was a native of Burlington and was twenty-six years of age. He was popular among a large circle of friends, was a member of the First Evangelical church of the Court of Honor lodge. The remains have been shipped to Burlington and will be taken in charge upon their arrival here by J.M. Burnett, who is making arrangements for a military funeral. The young man is survived by his mother, two brothers, John and Joseph, a half-brother, carl Hucke, and half-sister, Miss Ella Hucke, all at home. Flags should be flown at halfmast on all public buildings in the city of Burlington today out of respect for the memory of Private Alexander Miller.
